From offering steps to affordable housing solutions to the distribution of essential resources, our projects reflect the mission and vision of MVillage – to assist under-represented communities in bridging the access gap. Here are a few of our projects!
1865 Eastern Ave Se, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49507
The goal is equity. In 2023, 1865 Eastern Ave SE was purchased as a renovation project to center the operations of MVillage’s approach to residency and resources. The 18,000-square-foot facility is in the center of 49507 and is strategically located near several essential services.
1865 is currently in Phase 1 of its three-phase RECONSTRUCTION approach. In Phase 1, MVillage team members will utilize the 1865 property to house MVillage business operations, distribute essential resources, and offer educational workshops for individuals and groups.
In Phase 2, 1865 will expand the services of Phase 1 to include community gathering spaces. Phase 3 will consist of a fully renovated facility with housing units architecturally engineered onto the current facility.
Inside MVillage@1865, we have essential resources that will help people save money. The MVillage Care Closet has women's, men's, and children's apparel, alongside other items that will help preserve cash for other, more important expenses.
Alongside the MVillage Care Closet is Biven’s Basket, a monthly benevolence pantry that distributes household and personal care items, including cleaning supplies, toiletries, soap, paper towels, laundry soap, etc. The items issued by Biven’s Basket will change based on availability and community needs.
At the corner of Henry and Logan in Grand Rapids is an empty lot that will become an affordable housing unit named after one of Grand Rapids longest serving pastors, Rev. Dr. Clifton Rhodes, Jr. Affectionately known as Cliff, he served Messiah Baptist Church of Grand Rapids for 45 years before his retirement and MVillage is proud to acknowledge his service to the Grand Rapids community. In partnership with Messiah, donations toward the $250,000 goal to build a house for underprivileged individuals and families exceeds $,000!
